Effects of potassium in the body
Potassium provides virtually all functions in the human body. It contributes to the precise function of the cardiovascular system, reduces blood pressure (heart failure can occur due to the negligence of potassium supply to the body), ensures muscle tone, helps the overall stability of the internal environment and last but not least affects our nervous system.
Together with other electrolytes, potassium leads to nerve impulses, initiates a muscle contraction, and regulates heart rate and pressure. It also maintains the amount of fluid in the cells; sodium governs the amount of extracellular fluid, so both these minerals control the fluid balance in the body. Potassium also allows the conversion of blood sugar - the primary fuel of the body - into glycogen, a storable form of energy stored in the liver and muscles. It is also a natural diuretic, so it helps to remove harmful substances and toxic metabolic products from the body.
