What are MCT fats and where do they come from?

MCT (Medium Chain Triglycerides) are simply fats composed of glycerol and 3 fatty acids, with a medium carbon chain length of 6 to 12 carbon atoms. The fatty acids contained in MCT include caprylic, capric and lauric acids.

Unlike most long-chain fats, MCT fats behave differently in the body. They do not pass through the lymphatic system during their metabolism and are thus better absorbed. Due to their structure, they are more soluble in water and pass from the intestine through the portal vein directly into the liver (it does not need to bind to a lipoprotein). In the liver they are then metabolized to an immediate source of energy - the so-called ketones. The resulting ketones can serve as a well-utilized energy source for muscular work, thus protecting muscles from degradation. The rate of metabolism of MCT is even so high that it is comparable to the rate of glucose metabolism.

Ingredients:

Medium Chain Triglycerides from coconut oil, glucose syrup, milk protein, emulsifier (E 472a).

Direction for use:

To get additional medium chain triglycerides into your diet, add 1 ½ scoops (approximately 10g) to your existing sports shakes. Alternatively, use as a substitute for milk in your favourite hot drinks as a creamer.
